Set in the northern state of Sonora, Mexico, Jeremías, a misfit eight-year-old, realises he is a gifted child and initiates a journey of self-discovery to find out what he wants to be when he grows up. When an opportunistic physiologist makes contact with Jeremías, a new world of experiences opens up to him, but for that he is taken away from his ignorant and poor family whom he loves.
“El Jeremías” is a heartwarming comedy film about family love and the hard choices that come with opportunity.
The film has won several awards including: Ariel Award for Best New Actor, Stories from Abroad Award at Austin Film Festival, Filmmakers under 30 years old Prize and Press award at Guadalajara International Film Festival and the Audience Award at Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival. The film was premiered at the 30th Guadalajara International Film Festival, in 2015, and received nine nominations at the 58th Ariel Awards including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. It was included in the shortlist for Mexico’s entry to the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.
