30 Years after the fall of the Berlin wall, we are still living in a world where building a border remains a central flash point of our era. Beyond the physical aspect, borders are painful lines that not only divide countries but also societies, families and individuals. From large walls of cement to the creation of virtual walls separating and segregating our societies on a racial, religious, or social basis: The concept of borders remains a key element for the current economic, socio-political and identity challenges that can be found on the whole African continent, in MENA as well as in Sub-Sahara Africa.

In our daily work in the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, we try to depict those lines but also strive to tear down the walls built in the heads and minds of us and others… As the Foundation for Freedom, we work hard to create and provide platforms for ideas, which are platforms without frontiers. We connect individuals to their rationalities, to their rights and to each other.

Let us stop for a moment and reflect on how stories of pain can turn into stories of success and accomplishment. Let us relate to personal stories of people who have overcome borders. Together, let us celebrate stories of Freedom, Innovation and Change.

We look forward to welcoming you on November 3rd.
