“On Memory” by Sina Ata @ Nabad Art Gallery
From November 1st, 2016 Until November 30th, 2016
Under the patronage of HRH Princess Wijdan al-Hashemi, Nabad opens an exhibition of works by Sina Ata entitled, “On Memory,” at 6:00 pm on Tuesday 1 November 2016. The exhibition continues through the month of November.
Iraqi writer and critic Jabra Ibrahim Jabra once described Sina Ata’s work as “the painting of paradox,” referring to the sharp contrast between the neat, refined surfaces of his paintings and the turmoil of memories which have not ceased to haunt him throughout his career.
Memory, as Sina describes it in one of his poems, is “like a barbed wire / giving away its borders at times / and at times reluctant … it spits you out exploding…/ to reside somewhere / between your head and your heart / and you / the eternal refugee.”
An Iraqi born in the US, Sina Ata has held fourteen solo exhibitions in Amman, Baghdad, Bahrain, Dubai and London. His work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions in a number of Arab countries as well as in Switzerland, the UK and the USA. Sina’s work is held at the British Museum, London. He currently lives and works in Amman.
