On the 11th of October we bring to you an interactive full-day exhibition celebrating design, craft, and the art of co-creation.

The Design for Impact exhibition features 15 products, processes, and collaborations. Each one of them highlights a unique craft that revives traditional production methods through a human-centred design process. From furniture to fashion, tableware to travel kits, lighting units to laptop sleeves, the exhibition brings you a variety of products made with impact in mind.

The singular objects are the result of a 10-week collaborative effort bringing together artisans and designers to explore the roots of the design process and the drive behind creating objects with meaning. Designers began their journey last August by uncovering the secrets of making in the local craft scene. Afterwards, they started building their products and inclusive partnerships with artisans. And now, together with you, we celebrate the final stage of the program, where they tell us all about their journey.

>>>For the first time ever, we bring to you “The Humble Table”

The Humble Table is a pop-up food experience by Namliyeh. It celebrates irregularity and modestly made items inspired by the local craft scene using raw and natural materials. This orchestrated table experience revives the overlooked traditional techniques of production, putting into use the designed objects in an interactive dinner set-up.

These unique items give us a fresh appreciation for the art of making while rethinking the impact we create and instill a more humble appetite for the amount of stuff we choose to acquire.

The Design for Impact Program is the result of a collaboration between the British Council Jordan and the GIZ Responsible and Inclusive Business Hub MENA, with the support of many community partners and contributors: Amman Design Week أسبوع عمّان للتصميم, Oasis500, Design Institute Amman, Namliyeh and Fab Lab Irbid.

هذا المعرض هو نتيجة جهد تعاوني لمدة عشرة اسابيع جمعت ما بين مصممين وحرفيين في الاردن لاستكشاف اساسيات عملية التصميم والدوافع وراء خلق منتجات ذات معني. تحتفل هذه التجربة باختلاف المنتجات المصنوعة المستوحاة من المشهد الحرفي المحلي من خلال استخدام المواد الخام أو الطبيعية حيث تحيي هذة التجربة التقنيات والاساليب التقليدية التي تم تجاهلها من الإنتاج التقليدي، وبالتالي استخدامها في تصميم المنتجات المعروضة في اطار تفاعلي.

البرنامج هو نتيجة للتعاون بين المجلس الثقافي البريطاني ومشروع مركز الأعمال المسؤولة والشاملة التابع للتعاون الالماني الانمائي بدعم من عدة شركاء ومساهمين محليين: أسبوع عمان للتصميم،اواسيس 500، ومعهد التصميم في عمان، وفاب لاب اربد. يتم تنظيم المعرض من قبل نملية.
