In 1964, Tokyo was preparing to host the Olympics. Buildings and highways were being constructed at a feverish pace, and excitement filled the air.

Novelist Ryunosuke Chagawa is married to Hiromi, and the two share a happy life with teenage boy Junnosuke. Hiromi, who runs a restaurant, is pregnant and the family prepares to welcome a new addition to their household. Mutsuko, who works at Suzuki Auto, puts on makeup every morning and steps out of her home, all so she can “happen to” run into and say hello to the young doctor, she is in love with.

“Always Sunset on Third Street” follows the residents of a neighborhood located in the shadow of Tokyo Tower, as they struggle amidst all the change and commotion, each of them holding tight to a dream for the future.

The film has won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 37th Hochi Film Awards in Japan, 2012. It has participated in the 15th edition of Shanghai International Film Festival and Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival at its 16th edition in 2012.

It’s the third film in the Sunset on Third Street series that won the Best Film at the Japan Academy Prize in 2005.
