SUMMARY:Arabia to Antarctica: An Unlikely Story about Sustainable Energy
DESCRIPTION:RSVP by following this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/arabia-to-antarctica-an-unlikely-story-about-sustainable-energy-with-malek-al-chalabi-tickets-37688990786 \nAntarctica is the last untouched continent on Earth – where few have traveled and even fewer have explored due to its harsh conditions. Sir Robert Swan is the world’s first person to walk unassisted to both the North and South Poles. Based on those experiences\, Robert founded 2041\, an organization dedicated to preserving Antarctica by promoting recycling\, renewable energy\, and sustainability. During his talk\, Al-Chalabi will share his experiences from his expedition to Antarctica with 2041\, the parallels it carries for the energy sector\, and the implications that it may carry for a future energy transition in the 21st century. \nMalek Al-Chalabi is an Honorary Research Associate at the Transport Studies Unit at the University of Oxford. He is also currently a health\, safety\, and environmental professional at a multinational energy company. \nAl-Chalabi is particularly interested in historic energy transitions and understanding what lessons can be learned for future energy transitions\, facilitating and encouraging change\, and understanding future and niche technologies that have the potential to contribute to the future energy landscape. \nAl-Chalabi holds a PhD (DPhil) from the University of Oxford. Trained as an engineer and subsequently in the social sciences\, his interests cut across the social\, economic\, and technical domains in the energy space.
