SUMMARY:A Right for Everyone: Access to Information in Jordan short film @ Rainbow Theatre
DESCRIPTION:UNESCO Amman Office and the دعم الإعلام في الأردن Support to Media in Jordan project are pleased to present a screening of UNESCO’s short film on access to information\, “A Right for Everyone: Access to Information in Jordan\,” at the European Film Festival 2016. \n“A Right for Everyone: Access to Information in Jordan” explores freedom of information as it relates to a culture of free and independent media in Jordan. The film highlights the principle that public bodies have a duty to share or provide ready access to information they hold\, to anyone who wants it\, based on the public’s right to be informed. The right to know is central for upholding other basic rights\, for furthering transparency\, justice and development. Hand-in-hand with the complementary notion of freedom of expression\, it underpins democracy. We may not consciously exercise our right to know. But each time we pick up a newspaper\, turn on the TV or go on the Internet\, the quality of what we see or hear depends on media having access to accurate and up to date information. FOI is underpinned by legislation that supports access to information requests. In Jordan\, access to information has formally been enshrined in law since 2007\, when Jordan became the first Arab country to adopt access to information legislation. \nUnder the patronage of HRH Princess Rym al-Ali \nFunded by the European Union in Jordan\nImplemented by EUNIC Jordan\nIn partnership with The Royal Film Commission Jordan – RFC and Greater Amman Municipality\nIn partnership with SAE Institute – Amman \nFree entrance \n“A Right for Everyone: Access to Information in Jordan”\nDate: Friday\, 0ctober 7\nTime: 20.15\nVenue: Rainbow Cinema \nwww.euffjordan.com / www.facebook.com/eufilmjo \n
